Getting to Know b5media’s Jeanne Dupuis

Today, we get to know another b5media blogger — Jeanne Dupuis. Jeanne is a fun-loving, terrific blogger, who writes about a variety of topics.

Kori Ellis: Tell us a little bit about the blogging you do for b5media.

Jeanne Dupuis: I started blogging for b5media more than two years ago after applying to write for Idol Stalker. After that, I launched several blogs including Daytime Talk, Beyonce-K and Avril Groupie. I have blogged on many sites since those early days including Film Gecko, Light the Torch, Celeb Tots, Canadian Music Scene, Hockey Beat and Xboxxer.

Now, I have narrowed my focus so that I now write about topics I truly love and enjoy. I still write Idol Stalker and Daytime Talk but I also write on the new portal EveryJoe where I cover a wide range of topics from hockey (on Hockey Beat, still) to video games and entertainment. It’s a lot of fun!

KE: How did you become a hockey fan?

JD: I was born in Montreal which I think might be the biggest hockey city in North America. The Canadiens have won the Stanley Cup so many times that it felt like it was just a huge part of my life. When I was a little kid, Wayne Gretzky was a huge star so that definitely played a roll. Also, I’ve moved a few times so, in total, I’ve actually lived in three cities with major hockey markets (Montreal, Detroit and Calgary). I guess I just couldn’t help but become a hockey fan!

KE: What do you like most about blogging (and the least)?

JD: Blogging is flexible. I love being able to come up with a schedule and method that I find most efficient. I also enjoy sharing my opinion while being able to interact and debate with thousands of people from all corners of the world.

The least enjoyable thing about blogging is that it can be hard to unplug and back away from the computer. I have struggled with finding a balance between my work and my family. Since I work from home, it tends to blend in to each other and I’ve learned that sometimes updating my blog in the evening is less important than playing a round of Trivial Pursuit with my kids.

KE: Tell us a little more about your life outside of blogging.

JD: I spend a lot of my offline time cooking, exercising and reading. I’ve also got three growing kids so I try to spend time with them doing whatever they are interested in.

KE: Name something about yourself that most people would find surprising.

JD: I love languages. I speak English and French fluently and I have a working knowledge of Spanish. I also know enough Japanese and German to get around in those countries.

I’m also such a huge Star Trek fan that I actually shed a few tears when I got to go to the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas.

KE: What’s your dream job?

JD: Working from home. Even if it didn’t pay my “dream salary,” being able to work from home is really important to me because my health constraints might make other forms of employment impossible for me.

KE: What’s your biggest pet peeve?

JD: Disregard for sanitation, lack of appreciation for the gifts in life and people getting rewarded when they don’t deserve it.

KE: Sum up, “Who is Jeanne Dupuis?” in five words or less?

JD: Friendly, driven, giddy, picky and fun :)

KE: If you could give a new blogger just one blogging tip, what would it be?

JD: Get organized and develop a routine immediately.

I must have missed this interview when it first appeared. This was another great one. And who doesn’t love Jeanne? She’s been so awesome to work with! I’m slightly jealous (smile) about her speaking so many languages. I’d love to do that. (Jeanne - you rock - totally.)

I hope you went to see Star Trek, too!

Jeanne is impossible not to love! This was a great interview and I already knew Jeanne was brilliant, but this just made it even more clear. :)
